About
Lara completed her Ph.D. in language and literacy at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2005. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Elementary Education and Literacy at Illinois State University, where she teaches literacy methods courses for undergraduates, and graduate courses in theoretical foundations of language, literacy, and teacher education. A former bilingual teacher, Lara’s research explores the intersections between language, literacy, and teacher development. Her most recent work examines how teachers negotiate multiple and conflicting pedagogical demands in their literacy instruction, and how such negotiations relate to their professional identities.
